James M. "Mickey" Murphy

Murphy, James M. “Mickey”. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grampy and great grampy. With pride, we celebrate the life of an honourable man with great integrity, James Michael “Mickey” Murphy who passed at Glen Haven Manor, September 28th, 2009. Born in New Glasgow on May 13th, 1916, he was a son of the late Margaret “Maggie” and Michael Murphy. He was a 40 year employee of the CNR. Mickey was an accomplished athlete competing successfully in numerous running competitions and holding Maritime records in the 440 and 880. As well he participated in many hockey and baseball teams. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Maritimes Seniors Golf Association. His greatest joy was time spent with his family and the pride he felt in his involvement in their lives.
He was pre deceased by: Parents: Margaret “Maggie” Murphy and Michael Murphy; Brother: John “Jack” Murphy; Sons: Gary Murphy and James Murphy ; Grandchildren: Rosalie Murphy, Simon Pitts, Maureen Murphy; Great Grandchild: Meghan Hingley.
He is survived by: Wife Mary Isabel “Muni” (McCarron) Murphy; sons Kevin (Greta) Murphy of Edmonton, AB, and Brian (Helen) Murphy of Red Deer, AB, daughters Carol Boyle of New Glasgow; Helen Gerrior of Banff, AB, Aileen (Simon) Pitts of New Glasgow, and Patricia (Rick) Muzyk of Ingramport, NS; Daughters-in-law Ann Marie (Gary) of St. John, NB and Carmella (James) of Stellarton,; Grandchildren: Greg, Donald and Paul Murphy; Tim and Erin (Hingley) Murphy; Kevin, Michael, Carol Ann, Michelle (Drysdale) and Ken Boyle; Sean, Shannon (Goulet) and Cristin Murphy; Amanda (Henderson), Nick and Matthew Murphy; Craig, Melanie, Susan and Krista Gerrior; Shane, Pamela and Andrew Pitts. Great Grandchildren: Joseph, Ella, Jack, Connor, Colin, Alex, Jake, Brett,, Charlie, Ellen, Katelyn, Derek, Braden, Aaron, Katie, Christopher and Norah. Visitation Wednesday 7-9 pm and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home New Glasgow. Funeral mass 10:30 am Friday in Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church with Father Gary MacPherson officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of choice. Saint John the Baptist CWL will meet at the funeral home at 1:45 pm Thursday for prayers. Knights of Columbus Council 1667 New Glasgow will meet at the funeral home at 6:30 pm Thursday to conduct their service. Condolences at: www.rhporter.ca
